Apple Pay now works with third-party iOS and desktop browsers
Apple is rolling out several new features that were announced at WWDC. One of the most notable changes is the ability to use Apple Pay on third-party browsers on iPhone, iPad, and desktop computers. This means that users will no longer be limited to using Apple's Safari browser to make payments with Apple Pay. To use Apple Pay on a third-party browser on a desktop computer, users will need to scan a QR code with their iPhone or iPad.
Additionally, Apple has made it easier to add supported cards to Apple Wallet with the Tap to Provision feature. This feature allows users to simply tap an eligible NFC-enabled card to the back of their iPhone to add it to Apple Wallet. However, this feature is not available in all regions.
The company is also starting to support third-party buy now, pay later (BNPL) services, beginning with Klarna in the US and UK. This means that users will be able to choose to pay for their purchases in installments using Klarna when checking out with Apple Pay. Apple plans to add more installment payment options in the future, including Citi, Synchrony, and eligible Apple Pay issuers via Fiserv in the US. Klarna will also be available as an option in Canada at a later date.
Apple Pay users in the US can now redeem rewards on eligible Discover credit cards at checkout. This means that users can earn and redeem rewards from their Discover credit cards directly through Apple Pay. Support for rewards from other issuers and in more countries is on the way.
Overall, these new features represent a significant step forward for Apple Pay. By expanding the availability of Apple Pay to third-party browsers and adding new features like Tap to Provision and BNPL support, Apple is making it easier than ever for users to use Apple Pay for their everyday purchases.
